CRESCENT'S LEONARD FORDE LOOKS AHEAD TO SUNDAY'S CORINTHIANS FINAL v BLACKPOOL CELTIC, TURNER'S CROSS, 7.00PM KICK OFF
Crescent Athletic fc are facing their first final in 17 years since their 2-1 defeat to Bandon in the 1992 AOH cup final.Formed in 1982 the club feel a cup triumph is long overdue.Having lost the President's,St.Michael's,AOH and City cup finals in the past the club feel their time has arrived.
Taking nothing for granted they face a young and excellent Shaun Murray Blackpool Celtic side. The club had Murray's side watched in the semi-final against Greenmount Rangers and felt they fully deserved their 3-2 victory.
It's been a long season for the club returning to training last July the club were drilled by George Cummins and Leonard Forde who took control of the training sessions. The start of the season did not begin as the club expected flirting with relegation for the first months of the season. The club felt there luck was out, with everything that could go wrong going wrong. Not getting the bounce of the ball or silly individual errors costing the club badly in the first few months.
The club brought in a large number of new players at the start of the season and are now reaping the rewards from their young energetic signings. The club is blessed with terrific pace and a hunger to achieve and the bottom line of it is the players and management long for success.
Foundations for the change in fortunes in the club were laid down by former club secretary Paudie O Flynn, his determination to change the inner structure of the club from training, equipment, facilities and attitude is a credit to him and his efforts will forever appreciated by the club.
The team is managed by John O Donovan and Niall O Regan the duo feel this is the best squad of players the club has assembled in a while and they have what every manager wants competition for places.
The club has no Suspension worries going into the final. They boast a clean bill of health with the welcome return of veteran William Wyse who suffered a double break to his leg and Tony O Mahony who dislocated his shoulder their return to fitness is a welcomed boost to the club. The club signed a lot of new players in the summer and like anything else it took players time to bed in and the club is now seeing the fruits of the new signings.
Current form has been excellent with 12 wins from 13 games and just 1 defeat since January, the current form is nothing short of perfect. The defence has tightened up and the goals are been spread about amongst the team. Two main reasons for the up turn in form were the two transfer window signings the signing of experienced Tony Dunlea from Blackstone Rovers he has been a major asset in his ability to support the midfield and in his reading of the game.
Young American Casey Dineen who at 21 yrs old emphasises the new Crescent young, quick and strong.Casey is following in his father Danny uncles Neilus,Joe,Dommie and Martin Dineen footsteps in carrying on the family long association with the club.Sunday's Final will be his last appearance for the team and he will be hoping it's a winning one.
The team is backboned by the experienced Eoin Twomey(captain),Adrian O Connell,Leonard Forde,David Constant and Eric Murphy who all giving nearly a decade service to the club. With the team average age at 25 the future looks bright for the club.Casey's partnership in the middle of the park with powerhouse Adrian O Connell is one of the underlining reasons for the team journey to the final.
In Eoin Twomey and David Constant the club boast two of the best players in the aul.The team is flanked by Rowan Meegan and Tim Twomey,Meegan pace and skill is a constant threat to any defence and in Tim the club feel it has unearthed a gem, from never playing with a team before, the lad just gets better and better with each game.
The neverending running of front pair Eric Murphy and Jason O Sullivan will ensure the Blackpool defence will have to be on toes to keep them at bay.The club also recognises the commintment of likes of Liam Murphy who travels from Tipperary to play and Anthony O Regan who is there hail, rain or snow are the foundations on which the club prides itself on.
The club is lucky to have two top class keepers in Ian Irwin and Michael O Sullivan both in their first year with the club. The likes of Fred Morris,Steve Sheehan,Ian O Connell,Tony O Mahony and William Wyse are more than capable of being match winners on the night.
The club would like to thank APOC Builders owned by former player Anthony O Connell and the Management of the Glenryan Tavern for their contuined support down through the years and the club hope it may contuine long into the future. The club would like to wish the management duo all the best on the night and to give a special thank you to Paudie O Flynn and Leonard Forde for all there neverending work for club.
Panel for the final,ian irwin,tony dunlea,david constant,liam murphy,eoin twomey(captain),rowan meegan,tim twomey,casey dineen,adrian o connell,eric murphy,jason o sullivan,mick o sullivan,leonard forde,fred morris,ian o connell,anthony o regan,willie wyse,tony o mahony.

BLACKPOOL'S SHAUN MURRAY LOOKS AHEAD TO SUNDAY'S CORINTHIANS FINAL v CRESCENT ATHLETIC, TURNER'S CROSS, 7.00PM KICK OFF
Blackpool Celtic was established in 1942 and is very much a family club these days, it’s where the Chairman can be found filling the water bottles…The Secretary cutting and lining the pitch and the Treasurer cleaning out the dressing rooms! The 3 people at the heart of the club are Tony, Shaun and Terence Murray. Essentially the 3 of us share each job! We have been involved with Blackpool Celtic for 24 years and counting.
We take great pride in the fact that a lot of players come to Blackpool Celtic for a look and end up playing here for many years. Over the years we have always tried to keep improving our Facilities, and with the help of Kilcully Scout Camp whom we are entering our 20th season with, we have managed that. In 2000 we installed training lights behind the main pitch and this is where all the hard running is done. At the start of this season we have upgraded these Floodlights. We are consistently complimented on the playing surface at Kilcully.
All this would not have been possible but for the years of support we got from Denis Murphy in The Bowlers Rest, and now that support has been continued by Breda’s Bar in Blackpool and thanks go to Denis Donovan.
As for on the pitch the Cup Final has been a huge boost for what is essentially a very young team. The average age of the existing team is 24 years old. The oldest player being 31. The squad consists of Willy Matthews (C) Billy Murphy Harry DineenIan Murphy James Cronin Barry HorganIan Scott Robbie Murphy Stephen O’ConnorPaul Broe Richie Mannix Darren BroeBarry Hayes Colm Coveney Sean O’ConnorDave O’Shea Roy O’Driscoll
Our last taste of success was in 2002 when we done the double by winning the St Michaels Cup and League 1A under the then manager Conor Foley. This year has seen a great battle between Sean O’Connor with 11 goals and Dave O’Shea on 10 being our top scorers with Barry Hayes chipping in with 6 goals as well. Our path to this years Final has consisted of all away victories.
In terms of suspensions were ok for the Final but injury wise were missing Robbie Murphy as we were for the semi-final after his recent stay in Hospital and we all wish him well.
Path to final:
Knocknaheeney Celtic 3 Blackpool Celtic 3…. Sean O’Connor 2 Dave O’Shea 1 Went through on penaltiesStrand Utd 1 Blackpool Celtic 3…. Ian Scott 2 Roy O’Driscoll 1Greenwood 0 Blackpool Celtic 1 (aet)…. Colm Coveney 1Greenmount 2 Blackpool Celtic 3…. Sean O’Connor 1 Colm Coveney 2
I would also like to thank our sponsors throughout the year Martin and Lynda of Advanced PVC, Billy Murphy of Goodfella’s Barbershop and Blackpool Credit Union.
I cannot write this without asking you to mention a man who we know as “Mr. Blackpool Celtic”…. Tony “Cuddles”Murray. The work he puts in everyday has ensured the survival of this Club over the years. The pitch, the gear and the Finances are all down to him. And myself and the players would like to say Thank You for everything and hopefully he’ll have a Cup soon to show for his hard work. If not he’ll still be up in Kilcully next week cutting the grass and painting the goalposts!

PEARSE FINISH TOP
by Danny Carroll
AUL 1
Innishvilla 1 Pearse Celtic 4
Pearse took an early lead in AUL 1 when a great cross from a corner by Kevin McCoy was headed in by centre back Darren Roche. This gave the AUL 1 leaders a great start and they continued to look for more goals. Jamie Nagle got just reward for his outstanding hard work and effort when he scored the second after a mix up in the Innishvilla defence.
Pearse like Tuesday night against Richmond were 2 up at the break, however this time Pearse added more goals in the second half. The third goal was an outstanding solo effort by the evergreen Kevin McCoy who on a Pearse counter attack dribbled from the half way line and finished past the Innishvialla keeper with some style.
Pearse wrapped things up soon after when the outstanding Gary O’Shea’s shot rebounded nicely for Kevin McCoy for his second goal of the game. Pearse had numerous chances afterwards but failed to take any of them. Innishvilla were awarded a penalty in injury time to make the final score 4-1 to Pearse.
This was a great result for Pease under a lot of pressure and a great team performance and will hopefully be good enough for the club to lift their first ever First division title and the first time playing in the Premier A division.
Pearse: Damian Walsh, Paul Radley, Eddie Kelly, Darren Roche, Terry Dalton, (James O’Neill), Dave McArdle, Cian Holbrook, Kevin McCoy Eric Pender) Gavin Pender, Gary O’Shea, Jamie Nagle(Timmy Murphy)

Richmond Football Club from the Waterfall area has one of the best teams in the AUL first division and has the aim of going to the top strata of the Premier League in the next few seasons. It also has a second junior team.
The underage section is full of potential. They have schoolboys teams from u-11 to u-16, girls teams at u-12, u-14 and u-16 and next season Richmond youths will be playing premier football for the first time.
The ambitious club is seeking an equally ambitious secretary to help bring all the talents in the club together and get it to the next level. It is an interesting challenge in a vibrant club, in a vibrant community. Interested? The contact number is 085 8148911 (club phone) and Ger O’Shea is available at 085 1741610 and geclo@eircom.net
