Rockmount, the champions

A storming finish earned Rockmount victory in the Murphy Youth Cup final at Turners Cross.

It had been exciting all through. Kieran O'Connor put Rockmount ahead in the 20th minute and Anthony Noone (who had a great duel with Denis McAuliffe) headed a 65th minute equaliser. With the game heading for extra time, Conor Twomey set up goals for Dennehy (89th minute) and John Hurley (90th).

Unusually, two FIFA referees ended up running the line here. Christy Byrne came in at short notice when one of the original linesmen couldn't make it. Midway through the second half, referee Derry Sexton limped off to be replaced by linesman Brian O'Regan and Brian handed his flag to Pat Kelly.

Before the game, a minute's silence was observed in honour of Willie O'Shea of Blarney Utd who died suddenly over that weekend.

Mayfield, pipped at the very end.
