Temple United won their third trophy of the season with a 3-1 decision over Mayfield United in the final of the Linnane Cup.

Mayfield came close in the 1st minute but Pat Bozynski's shot was taken off the line by John Hurley. Five minutes later, Denis Keane put Temple in front by converting a penalty that he had won himself.

Mayfield powered back after the break and deservedly equalised in the 70th minute when Richard O'Callaghan's neat low finish off a cross by Ian Yelverton found the net.

But, following a defensive error, Mick Tobin's header put Temple ahead again in the 78th minute. The losers had a player sent off in the closing minutes and Kevin Kearney pounced on a poor back-pass to make it 3-1 in injury time.
