Wilton United take 2009 Presidents Cup with 1-0 win over Kinsale.

PRESIDENT'S CUP FINAL

Wilton United, pipped by Blackstone in the City Cup final last season, came good at Turner's Cross last Friday night to defeat league rivals Kinsale 1-0 in the final of the Murphy's Stout President's Cup. The hard-working Kevin Walsh scored the first half winner off a pass by man of the match Derek Harrington as Wilton completed the cup and league double.

Mark Dooley, the sound keeper for Wilton, was delighted as, for him, it was fourth time lucky at the venue, having previously lost three finals by one nil. He played his part throughout the competition and helped keep Kinsale out on Friday night.

His manager John O'Donovan was also very pleased: "I felt we deserved it. We were better overall and created most of the chances but missed a good few. Harrington, skipper Duffy and Walsh also stood out but all in all it was a great team show."

"It was our second visit here in two years and we were pipped in the City final last time so we are thrilled with the win. I'm delighted for the lads, most of them are young, delighted too for our Polish defender Wozny - he was one of our best tonight - who postponed his holiday trip home by twenty four hours to take part. It cost him a few bob but was worth it!"

Speaking of planes, Kinsale manager Ray Foran was en route from Australia and frustratingly missed the final by a day. Coach Leonard McCarthy, who also played, congratulated Wilton on their double. "They are a good team and a sporting one as well. We are disappointed now but we've had an excellent debut season."

"It didn't happen for us tonight, we never settled. We had some chances towards the end but it was not to be. We had some excellent performances tonight, especially from Andy and Eamonn in defence, from Craig McCarthy and Sean Foran and from young sub Rob Daly."
