One from the archives. Farranferris football team from the early 60s

Came across this photo of a Farranferris football team on the top shelf of a wardrobe the other day, probably clipped (without noting the date of course!) from either the Evening Echo or Cork Examiner.

Hurling was the number one sport in Farna and if you excelled at anything else, you didn't get very much encouragement. Even football was well down the list of priorities but every now and then it did get into the spotlight, especially if the hurlers made an early exit.

Not too sure when this was taken, best guess would 1962. The venue seems to be the old Cork Athletic Grounds, better known simply as the park. Quite a few of the players have signed the photo which includes at least two who would go on and play for Cork. They are both at the left, Seanie Barry at the back and Paddy Crowley at front.

If you know anyone in the pic - quite a few would have been from the northside - you might bring it to his attention. Might even be possible to get the outstanding signatures!

The players are:
Back, left to right: Sean Barry, Brian Hurley, Billy Lyons, Jer Crowley, Michael Daly, Vincent Hodnett, John Dineen, Liam McAuliffe, Donal McCarthy and Jerry Hennessey.
Front, left to right: Paddy Crowley, Tom McEvoy, Pat O'Riordan, Kevin Collins, Michael Donegan, Johnny Collins, Frank Crowley, John Hennessey and Michael Milner.
