Shield Final: Ballincollig1 Temple United 3

Match date 21 Mar 1993; Ref: R152

TEMPLE UNITED, despite conceding a first minute penalty, won the Murphy's Stout AUL Shield for the first time when they scored a well-deserved victory over Ballincollig in yesterday's final at Turner's Cross.

The penalty was awarded for a foul on Leonard Walker and was forcibly
converted by Mattie 'Driscoll. The response was immediate, however, with Temple equalising in the third minute, when Mick Tobin scored at the far post following good work by Thomas Ahern and Kevin Kearney.

The city side survived an early second-half scare, Aiden Green taking a Gerry Ring effort off the line. However, Temple mastered the rest of the game and took the lead in the 56th minute. Captain Denis Keane found Mick Tobin who turned
and fired a great 15 yard shot past Finbarr Hogan.

The icing on the Temple cake came 15 minutes later. The ground work, again by Keane, the close range finish applied by Bob O'Donovan. Bob had a similar
chance in the closing minutes but Hogan managed to intercept the striker's lob.
