Everton 3 Lakewood Athletic 0

Everton Midfielder Colin Fielding set up two goals in their comfortable 3-0 decision over Lakewood and was a deserving winner of the Evening Echo man of the Match award. Fielding’s splendid performance was the highlight  of this Youths One game and he was unlucky not to seal the show with a goal for himself.

The winners opened their account in the 26th minute. Fielding’s great ball over the top sent Colin Lyons free. Busy keeper Donnacha Murphy blocked the first effort but Lyons made no mistake with the second attempt.
.
Lakewood had their chances and, in the 51st minute, Brian O’Sullivan saw his tremendous effort well saved by Everton’s Shane Sherlock. Everton scored their second goal three minutes later, Fielding again the instigator. He released O’Keeffe who raced away and placed the ball beyond the reach of Murphy. Unfortunately  O’Keeffe injured himself in the process and had to be replaced.

Lakewood’s substitute Daniel Goulding got in behind the Everton defence in the 81st minute and unleashed a vicious strike which flashed narrowly wide. Fielding came close to a goal himself two minutes later. He waltzed beyond three defenders but his effort was well saved by Murphy.

Everton got their third with a few minutes to go. Andrew Cotter sent a magnificent ball through for Walsh who rounded the Lakewood goalkeeper and smashed the ball into the empty net.
