COACHING

COACHING THE COACHES:
The very popular Coaching the Coaches Forum run by UCC and sponsored by the Evening Echo will return on Wednesday October 6th to the Rochestown Park Hotel.

The first seminar planned will focus on motivation, what motivates players and how to motivate players.

The keynote speakers on the night will be
Cork ladies football coach Eamonn Ryan and well-known sports psychologist Canice Kennedy.

Motivation is a word closely associated with sport. It is loosely used to describe how athletes and participants engage in activity, or to explain a result, or to understand certain individuals.

This coaching the Coaches session looks at this complex topic in great detail and will explain different components of motivation and provides guidance for coaches in the field.

Canice Kennedy, a full-time sports psychologist, who has worked with players, athletes and teams from a wide range of sports including hurling, football, rugby, basketball, tennis, boxing, handball and clay pigeon shooting and Eamonn Ryan, coach of the very successful ladies football team will discuss the topic with those present.

Ryan has coached children, adults, beginners and high performance athletes. He has distinguished himself as an athlete, coach and teacher.

He is a tutor for the GAA and teaches UCC students the art, performance, and teaching skills of gaelic games.

He shares his experience of creating environments where athletes and participants are motivated to learn and engage in physical activity.

There will be a cover charge of 10 euro and as places are limited they can be reserved by e-mailing esport@eecho.ie.

The seminar, which again will be chaired by Julia Walsh the Director of Sports Studies and Physical Education in UCC is the fifth in the series that helps coaches of all grades and age to learn more about the art of coaching from expert coaches.
