Cork AUL's Billy Lyons

Conor Jones

Conor Jones, who died suddenly last weekend, was a rock at the heart of the Village United for many seasons. He was there when they needed him, organising the back four, putting that red head in where it hurts, stretching out to make that last ditch tackle, never shirking when the going got tough.

Sometimes he was needed upfront and how many times did he come to the rescue, heading in the late winner from a corner, shooting a close range equaliser.

What a player. What a captain. He will be missed at Silverheights.
Our picture shows him heading clear in an FAI Cup game against Freebooters.
