Midfield aces Michael Shields and Brian Leonard along with hat trick hero and Evening Echo Man of the Match Shane O’Neill ran Rathcoole ragged at Farranlea Park in this Under 17 First Division game, a game that the city side won 4-0.

Wilton’s first half pressure paid with a 35th minute goal, headed in by Sean Jordan from a corner kick.

O'Neill, after good build-up play by Shields and Dan McAleer, made it 2-0 in the 43rd minute, giving Rathcoole keeper Tadhg McSweeney no chance. And it was Shields again who set up another for O'Neill in the opening minutes of the second half.

McSweeney made a great save from a 52nd minute penalty, diving to his left to turn Shield's effort around the post. David Goff had been brought down for the spotter.

Rathcoole had their chances and Alan Guerin regularly bothered the home defence but his best effort, a 55th minute pile driver was well saved by Ken O’Halloran.

O’Neill completed his hat trick in the 74th minute. Skill, conviction, an eye for goal, were among the factors that won the Wilton scorer his  Evening Echo Man of the Match Award.
