 AOH CUP

Blarney United, down to ten men for most of the game, were impressively led by Dave Moynihan and played brilliantly as a unit to record a well deserved 4-1 advance over Maymount Celtic in the Murphy’s Stout AOH Cup.

O’Shea Park, so well prepared, was looking inviting but it was a tough task for John Murphy's Celtic after their great FAI run ended the week before and, despite the noteworthy efforts of Paul Hogan and Jonathan O’Callaghan, they just couldn't get a grip. Besides, they weren't helped by an injury to keeper Stephen Jones, replaced by sub Thomas Flynn.

Nor were they helped by the concession of a first minute goal. Then Derek Healy headed in the Blarney opener off a Rory Goggin corner. Maymount equalised about ten minutes later when Steve McAuliffe headed home off a Brian Barry corner.

Blarney, down to ten men midway through the first half, Blarney again seconds into the second half, when Neil O’Riordan headed in a another Goggin cross.

Maymount pressed forward but were caught when Blarney full back Dermot Crowley raced from his own position to record his first goal of the season and Healy finished it off when he made the best of a long ball out from keeper Paul Collins.
