Cork City 3 Drogheda 2

Cork City 3 Droheda 2
Drogheda, upset by early injuries, never got going in first half when they had strong breeze behind them at Bishopstown. City scored twice in the 15 minutes before the break and it looked as if the second half would be easy for them.
The visitors though fought well and got one back and had equalising chances before City volleyed in a superb third about the 75th minute. Top saves by the Drogheda keeper kept City at three before a fantastic free kick goal came too late for the visitors and Cork will play Killarney Celtic in the final.

Brief review on tonight’s games:
There’s not much really to look at after tonight’s action with no surprises happening.
In 1A, both favourites to win the title won tonight – Douglas Hall and Kilreen Celtic.
Next Thursday at Douglas Hall’s place will be the decider for the title when both themselves and Kilreen get together for the big showdown.
In league 2, Innishvilla won 2-1 away to City Wanderers tonight so, a point away to Casement next Saturday will seal the title for them.
In league 2A, Leeview performed the great escape by grabbing all three points in what was a must win game away to Killowen to guarantee their survival in this division next year.
They did what was asked of them and won 4-1.
This means now that Coachford B will be relegated.
CORK AUL Results for Thursday:

Here are a couple of results from tonight.
Premier: Park United 1-3 Leeside.
AUL 2B: Carrigaline 1-1 Glanworth

Tuesday, April 26, 2011

Here’s a review on Tuesday’s games.
Premier: Kinsale still remain unbeaten after ten games and came out on top on Tuesday with a 2-1 win over Coachford with goals from Sean Lyons and Steve Goulding.
But, it was not all a bed of roses as they had to come from behind to grind out their win.
Wilton also continued their solid form but, had to come from behind also to win out 3-1 away to Ballyvolane who must now put up a brave fight to avoid relegation.
Macroom had a huge 2-1 win over Knockavilla which separated them from the teams below them battling relegation.
Blarney Street had a comfortable 5-0 win at home against Grattan.
Here’s the way top and bottom looks now.
1. Leeside P16 Pts 33 18 games to be played
2. Wilton P14 Pts 32
3. Blarney St P17 Pts 31
4. Coachford P16 Pts 27
5. Kinsale P10 Pts 26
Here’s how the bottom looks like.
Macroom P15 Pts 18
Knockavilla P16 Pts 13
Ballyvolane P15 Pts 12
Grattan P16 Pts 3
LEESIDE WILL PLAY PARK UNITED ON WEDNESDAY NIGHT IN THEIR PREMIER CLASH AT BRIGOWN.

Premier A: Killumney did the business tonight away to Bohemians when they ran out 2-1 winners to chalk up another victory in their efforts to go for the title.
Here’s the way it looks now at the top.
1. Greenwood A P18 Pts 38 18 games to be played.
2. Killumney P14 Pts 34
So, as you can see, all Killumney need now to win the title is 5 points from 4 games.
Not a very difficult task. One thing is for sure both Greenwood and Killumney are promoted anyway.

AUL 3: The most important game to take notice of in this section was Leeside C at home to Carrigtwohill. Well, they ran out 3-1 winners to put themselves right in there with a big chance to take the title. But, take a look now at this section at the minute.
1. Leeside C P21 Pts 40 22 games to be played
2. Cork Rd Clt P21 Pts 40
3. De Courcy P21 Pts 39
4. Boscos P20 Pts 37
No need for me to point out how exciting this one is.

Watch this space once again next Thursday night where I will have all the results along with the usual review.
ALL TUESDAY'S RESULTS:
Premier league: Coachford 1 Kinsale 2; Ballyvolane 1 Wilton Utd 3; Blarney St Ath 5 Grattan Utd 0; Macroom 2 Knockavilla Celtic 1.
Premier A League: Bohemians 1 Killumney Utd 2; Village Utd 3 Leeds 1.
AUL 3: Leeside C 3 Carrigtwohill Utd 1; Hibernians 2 Greenwood B 4; Glen Celtic 4 Innishvilla 2.
Afton Villa 5 UCC 0.
AUL 3A: Kanturk 3 Buttevant 2; Bweeng 4 Knocknaheeny Celtic 3

Monday, April 25, 2011

Here’s a re-cap on some of Tuesday night’s fixtures.
Well now – things are starting to get very interesting indeed with more big games going on tomorrow night. Let’s take a quick peek at the action and what it means for some teams.
Premier: Kinsale are the only team unbeaten in this section but they are away to Coachford on Tuesday night and will do very well to come away with three points here. A potential banana skin for one of the favourites to take the title.
Knockavilla’s win last week against Blarney Street has put it up to Ballyvolane now and at Ballyvolane Park on Tuesday night, the homesters will have a tough nut to crack in Wilton who are now hitting form at the right time.
Blarney Street will be favourites to get back to winning ways at home to Grattan and Knockavilla should be full of confidence when they travel away to Macroom.

Premier A: Killumney now only need 8 points from 5 games to win the title and the process to commence that ambition could begin tomorrow night with a win away over Bohemians.
Villages’ fate was sealed last Sunday when they went down 0-3 away to Greenwood so there game at home against Leeds will be a bit meaningless.

AUL 3: After Cork Road Celtic’s defeat last week, has blown the race for the title wide open in this section as any one of four teams can become champions.
They are Cork Road Celtic, De Courcey Albion, Leeside C and St. John Boscos.
The biggest game in this section on Tuesday will be Leeside at home to Carrigtwohill and a win here for Leeside would give them a great chance of becoming champions.

Tune into this space tomorrow night and I will have all the results plus a fresh look at the tables as a result of the action.

Cheers,
Barry.

BEST OF LUCK TO CORK YOUTHS

Best of luck to Richard Fitzgerald and his Cork Youths team who play hosts Kilkenny in the final of the national youths championship on Sunday. The omens are good. Thursday, April 21, 2011

A quick review after tonight’s results:
AUL 1: No huge surprises here with both Carrigtwohill and Springfield winning their games.
Carrigtwohill are now looking very strong at the helm and although Springfield are well in there still with a chance, you have to wonder a bit if they can really bite into this enormous amount of league games they have in hand - in a positive manner.
That of course remains to be seen yet.
At the other end of the table, Shandon Celtic’s defeat away to Springfield is not too much of a concern for them, the fact that Boscos were also beaten 3-0 by Glen Celtic.
Here is a cut-down version of the table after tonight’s results.
1. Carrigtwohill P17 Pts 42 games to be played 22
2. Dillon’s Cross P19 Pts 39
3. Leeside B P19 Pts 33
Springfield are 7th after playing 10 with 22 Points

AUL 1A: This section now - without doubt is a two horse race and after the ‘Hall’s 6-0 win away to Richmond, they take over the helm above fellow title challengers Kilreen Celtic who did not play tonight.
Here is the situation.
1. Douglas Hall P17 Pts 41 games to be played 20
2. Kilreen Celtic P16 Pts 40

AUL 2: Innishvilla continue to set a blistering pace here once again and after tonight’s 5-1 victory over Blackpool Celtic, you have to fancy them to take the title.
The battle at the bottom continues and after Inter City Celtic’s 4-3 win away to Kinsale, this massive three points could now make them safe. But, Dunbar and Casement are not out of the woods by any means after they both drew 2-2 tonight.
1. Innishvilla P15 Pts 42 games to be played 18
2. Hibs P14 Pts 33

AUL 2A: After tonight’s results, this one has also turned into a two horse race with both Crescent and Millstreet winning their games.
Near the bottom, Killowen’s 1-0 win to-night over Waterloo pushed them away from the danger zone.
1. Crescent P16 Pts 39 games to be played 18
2. Millstreet P16 Pts 38

AUL 2B: No doubt, the massive result of the night here was Cathedral Celtic’s 4-1 away win over Brooklodge. This certainly puts them right back into the picture again although Watergrasshill still has the upper-hand with three points to spare.
The basement battle was very interesting here also and there is no doubt but that Central’s 4-1 win over Churchvilla was a massive three points. Glanworth’s 3-2 win over Castle was also a huge result for them.
1. Watergrasshill P18 Pts 41 games to be played 20
2. Cathedral Cel P18 Pts 38

So, another interesting weekend lies ahead, will be back again on this space next Tuesday night with all the results and reviews.

Cheers,
Barry.

Please note: There will be a slight delay on posting results onto the Blog tomorrow night as I will be out in the Cross covering the St. Michael’s Cup Final and will not get home until ‘round 10pm.
CAN EVERYONE ENVOLVED IN GAMES, PLEASE TEXT THE RESULTS A.S.A.P.

Here’s a re-cap on some of Tuesday's key fixtures.
St. Michael’s Cup Final: Of course this is the big game on at the Cross and there is no doubt that Fairview are the in-form team ahead of this game but, we all know about finals and how you can become a cropper if the attitude is not right in a one-off situation that a final is.
However, I would still fancy Fairview to lift the trophy come the end of the action.
Premier: Although all games are big to everyone involved, the Wilton game at home to Leeside certainly catches the eye. For both teams, it’s a must win game if they are to pursue the title in earnest.
Kinsale are at home to Ballyvolane and will be fancied to take the points while Blarney Street have a tricky trip to Macroom.
Premier A: Killumney travel to Castleview and will be made work extremely hard to get anything at O’Sullivan Park. Just in case, some people are not aware, Greenwood A are promoted already here and are awaiting the outcome of Killumney’s results now, from here on with a very keen eye.
AUL 3: It’s all happening here tomorrow night also. Boscos are at home to neighbours Leeside B in what will be another crunch game for both sides in the race fo the title and at Shanbally, leaders Cork Road Celtic could be the ones who can take another step closer to clinching the title but, must first overcome Hibs in their own back yard.
AUL 3A: All eyes will be on Ballinhassig’s game at home to Lakewood and a win here for the leaders could potentially give them the title depending on how Ballincollig do with their games in hand.

So, lots to look forward to on Tuesday night.
Cheers,
Barry.

Review of tonight’s Results:
Well – there was certainly some interesting results across the board in tonight’s results and I have always maintained that midweek games can determine the outcome in many ways as to who is going to get promoted and relegated at the end of the day.
Let’s begin with AUL 1.
Carrigtwohill did the business at home tonight with a solid 3-1 win over Glen Celtic and what really makes this win so important from their point of view is Springfield’s 1-1 draw away to Buttevant. Springfield’s Management will not be happy at all with that result – especially when they have so many games in hand.
Fairview rested some key players tonight in preparation for the St. Michael’s Cup Final next Tuesday night at the Cross and still managed a 3-1 win over Knockraha – a good morale boosting result ahead of the big night.
Leeside held on to third spot with a 2-1 home win over Park United B.
But, Carrigtwohill are looking very much like the in-form team at the minute…….

AUL 1A: What about Glenvale’s fantastic result again tonight – 3-1 home win over red-hot favourites Kilreen Celtic and with Douglas Hall’s 4-2 victory away to Passage, the whole race for the title is blown wide open once again.
Here’s the situation now after tonight’s results with 20 games to be played:
1. Kilreen P16 points=40
2. Glenvale P18 points=37
3. D. Hall P15 points=35

AUL 2: After tonight’s 3-0 victory over Casement Celtic, there is only one horse to back here – that is Innishvilla to win the title.
Hibs are keeping in touch alright with a 5-1 win away to Wilton but, with 4 games to go, I cannot see Innishvilla slipping up.
Here is the situation after tonight’s results with 18 games to be played
1. Innishvilla P14 points=39
2. Hibs P14 points=33

AUL 2A: Crescent jumped into second spot here after running out 2-0 winners at home to Leeview tonight and it certainly looks now like a two horse race between Crescent and Millstreet. Here is the situation now after tonight’s results with 18 games to be played.
1. Millstreet P14 points=34
2. Crescent P14 points=33

AUL 2B: Although Watergrasshill are still in a strong position at the helm, Cathedral Celtic boosted their challenge on the title after a terrific 3-1 victory over a Brooklodge United side that have slipped recently.
Corkbeg also gave themselves an outside chance with a 1-0 away win over Churchvilla.
Here is the situation now after tonight’s results with 20 games to be played.
1. Watergrasshill P17 points=38
2. Cathedral Cel P16 points=32
3. Corkbeg P16 points=31

So, plenty to chew on as we look forward to lots of action and excitement over the coming weekend. Will be back next Monday with a preview on Tuesday’s fixtures.

Cheers,
Barry.
Tonight’s Results:
There’s a few here that will catch the eye.

AUL 1A: Grangevale 2 Dunbar Celtic 0; Passage 2 Douglas Hall 4; Donoughmore Ath 4 Rathcoole Rovers 1; Glenvale 3 Kilreen Celtic 1; Richmond 5 UCC 2.
