REMINDER>>>>>

U21 INTERNATIONAL: IRELAND V GERMANY

Turner's Cross - Feb 10th - Kick off 7.30pm.

It is 1991 and Cork City are playing the mighty Bayern Munich in a EUFA Cup tie in Musgrave Park. One of the Germans, a famous international and voted into the all time greatest Bayern eleven by 60,000 fans in 2005, wonders why they have to play these old men and is quoted as saying that one of the Cork players was like his father (his grandfather, according to some).

Question: Who was that German and who was the Cork player he singled out as an older relation? That Cork player got his own back by scoring during the game.

The winner of the 1st quiz (after a draw, quite a lot of you got it right) was Mark Neville of Los Zarcos. The correct answer was Thomas Hitzlsperger ( http://www.thomas-hitzlsperger.de/ )who was playing for Aston Villa at the time and Mark's prize is two tickets to the Ireland v Germany U21 international at Turner’s Cross on February 10th, kick off 7.30pm.

We have the same prize for this one – answer by email only and don’t forget to include your postal address.
Closing date is midnight Feb 3rd.
FAI CUP

Kinsale v Nenagh switched to Blarney all weather, today at 2.00pm.

Other Saturday games still on: Blackstone v Grangevale..and no news on Ballincollig v Village.

Football Association of Ireland
U21 - Ireland v Germany Turner's Cross Feb 10th

Republic of Ireland Under-21 manager Don Givens will announce his squad to face Germany at Turner’s Cross at a press conference on Tuesday, January 27th.

The young Irish team takes on Germany at Turner’s Cross on February 10th in a match that will see them come up against one of the top Under-21 sides in Europe. With several German players playing regularly at top Bundesliga sides such as Bayern Munich, Werder Bremen and Bayer Leverkusen, this is an opportunity for the Irish players to test themselves against some of Europe’s elite young players.

Having drawn against Portugal and defeated Lithuania in their last two outings, Givens will be hoping that his Irish side can build on recent results as they prepare for the Under-21 UEFA European Championship qualifiers, which will begin this summer.

After facing Germany at Turner’s Cross, the Republic of Ireland Under-21s will travel to Waterford to take on Spain on March 27th at the RSC.

TEAMER
To : Football Team Managers/Organisers/Coaches

Please excuse the intrusion, I got your details from the football clubs website as I wanted to drop you a short note to let you know about a free to use Irish online web service www.teamer.net , that uses sms/texting and e-mail to help ease the headaches of organising your football teams.

The frustrations of organising games/training from both a time and cost perspective led us to develop and launch www.teamer.net 4 months ago. Teamer saves organisers time and money by automating game/event notifications, sending to both mobile phone and email, and collating all responses in a single team page.

It is a completely FREE to use service, which will be funded by advertising/sponsorship. Since we launched, more than 3000 Irish team sports organisers have established their teams on Teamer and are using it to communicate game/training notifications with their team members.

We are sure it will make life a whole lot easier for team managers/organisers/mentors in your club. If you get a chance, have a look around the site, maybe set up a dummy team, and try it out.

We know from our users base that the setting up of a team takes no more than about 10 minutes, but it will be 10 minutes that will save each team organisers many hours each week over the course of the season.

You can view a 1 minute demo of how the site works by clicking on the link http://www.teamer.net/pages/demo .

Thanks for your time, and for your support for an indigenous Irish internet start up.
Please don't hesitate to contact me if you have any questions.
Yours in Football
