LEEDS TOP 3A

Leeds’ new third division team were “extremely happy with our first season in the league”. And why wouldn't they be? They won Division 3A and also reached the final of the President's Cup, the knockout competition for third division teams.

The highlight of the season was beating Los Zarcos on the final Sunday morning to wrap up the league and the low point was losing to season long rivals Coachford twice in the space of 10 days, once in the President’s Cup final at Turner’s Cross and once in the league (their only league defeat).

Kevin McGee captained the side and chipped in with a few goals from midfield. Stephen Nolan and Don Kelleher managed the team and were delighted with how the team performed.

Nolan: “We had top performances throughout the season from Kevin Murphy at the back, David Buckley in midfield, and the Nolan brothers, Mark and Gary up front. Gary was top scorer with 28 goals and he was followed closely by Jonathan Cooney.”

“We hope to continue our progress in the second division next year and we hope to make better progress in the cup competitions. We scored 80 goals in the league and conceded only 15 which is a remarkable achievement in our first season.”

The full Leeds panel was: Stephen Nolan, Richard Leahy, Keith Molloy, Kevin Murphy, Stephen Hegarty, Trevor Sheehan, Tomas McCarthy, Kevin McGee, Terence Buckley, David Buckley, David Dennehy, Jonathan Cooney, James Fogarty, Tony O’Sullivan, Freddy Morris, Shane Kelly, Gary Nolan and Mark Nolan.
