Garrett Lyons of Douglas Hall: The Douglas Hall AUL 1 game this Sat has been switched to Garryduff.

Glenthorn manager Ger Cronin has also been on to say that their Linnane Cup game against Kanturk will not be played in St Aidan's and is likely to be switched to Kanturk.

Springfield "B" are looking to play a friendly over the next week and are willing to travel due to Pat O Brien still closed off,my contact no. is 086-877-26-25.(PETER ROWE,MANAGER)

Leeview AFC are looking for a striker. If anyone feels that they have been made surplus to requirements now that the season has begun due to the new players coming in we would love to hear from you. Last year’s striker Chris Wall has moved on to Leeds MSL although we have good squad we need another top grade striker. At Leeview we heavily emphasise the technical aspect of the game. We aren’t looking for a Niall Quinn or a Tony Cascarino style forward as this would contradict our style of play. We play most of our football on the ground and will expect incoming players to do the same. We play in the very competitive Div 3A AUL. If you feel that you fit the grade please don’t hesitate to get in touch on 087 6838648 -- David Hall

Macroom’s games will be played in the Town Park this season as Murray’s Field is closed due to redevelopment, our dressing rooms will be out of action for the next two to three weeks, away teams are to park in the car park at the end of the bridge ( in front of the nightclub ) and not down the lane adjacent to the town park as this is no longer allowed by the owners of the houses down the lane.

Thursday, August 09, 2007

The second annual Watergrasshill Utd Golf Classic was held at Fermoy Golf Course on Friday July 06th last. Despite the recent poor weather, it turned out to be a marvellous day with a total of 35 teams teeing off. The course itself was in excellent condition but a strong breeze made the golf challenging.

However, there was a welcome break for refreshments at the 10th hole where burgers and hot dogs were served by our ‘club chef’ Baitor and his assistant Chris Conroy. The scoring on the course was very close with only five points separating the top ten teams.

The winners of the event were Michael Moynihan / Donal O Brien & D Buckley with an excellent score of 54 points who beat the Deloitte team of Fergus O’Connell, Declan McCarthy and John Nagle into second (also with a score of 54 but beaten on the back 9). In third came: Ken Ross (Centra WGH) / Colin Byrd & Ken Wilis, fourth: Pat O Callaghan / Pat O Brien & Pat O Leary and fifth home: Dave Doyle / Mike Corbett & Dan Lynch.

The Golf Classic is an important fundraising scheme for the club and at the presentation in Mahonys Bar, Club Chairman Niall O’Riordan paid tribute to all the sponsors who continue to support the club and to John Foley Heating & Plumbing and C-Lube Michael Conroy for sponsoring 2 of the main prizes. He also thanked all the teams who participated and all those associated with running the golf classic. Also thanks to Brian Moriarty and all the staff & committee in Fermoy Golf Club for the use of their facilities

Picture above shows the winners of the 1st prize: D O Brien / Michael Moynihan (Moynihan’s Pharmacy WGH) / D Buckley.

As you know by now, the AUL season starts on the weekend of August 25th/26th. Just like last season, we will have a major preview in the ECHO on Friday 24th.

There are a lot of pages to fill, so we need your help. It is a great opportunity to publicise your club, your team.

This is a list of suggestions:

Developments during the summer – pitch improvements, new facilities.

How did your AGM go?

Your committee members:________________________

Who is the manager? The assistant? The other sideline mentors?

Have you new players in? Up from the B team? Up from the Youths? Who is the captain for the new season? Have you lost players? Retired? Are last season’s top scorers still with you?

Where did you finish up last season and were you happy with it? How does your section look? Is it tough? Who will be your main rivals for the championship?

What are your aims for the season? Will priority be given to cups or league?

Please let me have your panel……….

Who got your annual awards: Player of the year? Top Scorer? Clubman of the Year?
