BALLY BUZZ

There was a large attendance recently at Murphys Rock bar for the Ballyvolane AGM.

Chairman Derek Mellerick in his address stated that it was great to see the turnout so big as its easy to not bother when the season has ended. It is a reflection of the commitment to the club on and off the park and bodes well for the future. The outgoing committee of Mellerick, Michael Lynam { treasurer/secretary} & Decky Mellerick {asst.treasurer} were joined by Ger o’Riordan as club PRO.

Mellerick will continue to manage the club’s premier team and expressed satisfaction at the teams performance in their first season in Premier A. “We started ok but then hit a bad patch before recovering well to finish comfortably mid table.” We will need to pick it up a bit this season though as the section seems to be very strong”.

Tony oDonnell stepped down as B team manager to concentrate on schoolboys at Leeds and we wish him well.Dave Keane has stepped into the hotseat with experienced help from Decky Mellerick on the line. A long time member of the club, Dave was a popular choice with the players and will bring a fresh voice to the dressing room. “I hope to have a good go at retaining the City Challenge Cup for the three in a row,and to improve our league performances which we were a bit disappointed with last year”

Dave has brought in a few new faces and enticed back a few who had left the club. He continues,” Derek is taking some of last years team up premier so these lads will all get an opportunity to stake a claim. Most are local and will know the players on both teams” “This is important as it strengthens the bond within the club rather than an “us and them” scenario which affects a lot of clubs with two teams”.

Derek and Dave will have both squads training together pre season at their grounds at Whites Cross on Tuesdays and Thursdays and all are welcome. A special thanks to Bernard at Murphys Rock for his continued support and sponsorship.
