The Dennehy’s, that well known footballing family, primarily associated with Northvilla, are again in mourning due to the early death of Maria Coleman, daughter of referee Sean. His colleagues in the referees’ society and in football generally may wish to know that the funeral will be held in Carrigaline tomorrow (Tuesday) after 12-noon requiem mass in the Church of Our Lady and St John.

Brian O'Regan, the Senior Referees Assessor in Cork, tells us that they are hoping to run a course for Beginner Referees at the Rochestown Park Hotel on Saturday 19th August at 10am. Anybody interested can contact the FAI at 01-7037500 or Brian at 086-8113959.

The Alanna Appeal

As part of a bid to raise €250,000 for the Alanna Appeal, the St John Bosco's football club in Midleton has joined forces with local pub McDaids to stage a Soccer Quiz each of the first four Tuesday nights in August. Tables, for teams of three, cost €50.00 and there will be some great prizes. The quiz will start at 9.00pm each evening and is being organised by Brendan Foley and Denis McSweeney of Bosco's along with Billy Woods of Cork City. Entries may be confirmed with Brendan @ 087 9076402 or directly with McDaids.

Two Players Looking for a Club

I'm a P.E. Teacher from Spain and I would like to play soccer in Cork AUL.
Martin Conlon gave me some telephones of the teams nearest to my home(western Road), but I have a problem with the English by phone, so I would need an email to contact better than by phone. The teams are Ard-na-laoi, Casement Celtic, City Wanderes, Evergreen, Lee Rangers, Greenmount Rangers and Toguer Rovers.
I would be grateful for your help.

I´m a 22 year old german student, who is going to do one academic year at Cork university from september 2006 until July 2007. While staying in Cork, I would like to go on playing soccer, as I do so in Germany since more than a decade. I think i´m going to like the Irish way of playing football:-) but my problem is, I have no idea, which team I should join, and if there are any problems with the players license and so on... I would be deeply grateful, if you could help me by telling me, what teams could be interesting for me and if there are any problems to join team and play for them. I´m looking forward to my residence in Ireland and hope I can continue to perform my great passion - playing soccer - there!
